Traditions are usually hundreds of years old,
which add to the special value of their being a
part of, for instance, weddings.
Here are some of the wedding traditions, but
feel free to return to this page, as we add new
traditions to it regularly. |

The
Best Man
The tradition of the best man, comes from Germany in the
middle ages.
Back then, the men would often have to
break in to one of the neighbouring villages, in order to find
a
suitable
bride.
The
groom would kidnap the
bride and
bring her back to
his own town.
During the wedding ceremony he would need
the help of a good friend to fight off any of her relatives
that might try to come and get her back home. This
friend
would
have to
have the
necessary
strength
to fight
off her
whole
family,
and
that's
where
the tradition of having best man comes from.

The white dress

A lot of people think the
significance of the bride
wearing white, is that she must
appear to be pure and clean when
she enters into her marriage.
That is not the actual meaning
of the white wedding gown.
Before the year 1499, there was
a tradition to wear dark or even
black on your wedding day, but
when Anne of England got married
in 1499, she chose to wear a
white gown. She did this, to
show that she was happy about
getting married and that she
loved her groom.
And that was the beginning of
today's tradition of wearing
white on your wedding day -
happiness !
